“Challenge Wedefi : Mealworms Tarte flambée”

Funny thread : The photos will show all the steps from the signing until the reaction of my friends and family. (I hope I will be able to add a photo at the end of me munching sharing the prize, but for this, the choice is yours…)

Introduction

Wedefi is a new french start-up with a great concept. You can try new products for free and have fun using it!

Step 1 : “Oh a challenge with Jimini’s…”

If you wanna participate, it’s very simple. You go on their website and choose a challenge, when you find a challenge that might interest you, you just sign-up. If you’re selected, they will send you a product from the brand involved for free, you do the challenge and share it on the social networks. If you win, you can have a second bonus-gift! (Life is wonderful, isn’t it?)

It’s a win-win-win partnership : Wedefi and the other start-up get some exposure and you can try a product for free, have a lot of fun and maybe win the bonus prize! (Yeah, I know I’m a positive guy)

The challenge of the day is in a partnership with “Jimini’s – les insectes comestibles“.

Step 3 : “The box is here! Now, it’s my turn!”

The challenge is : “Prepare your best recipe with Jimini’s to your friends“. So, my mission is the following : I start by having some fun preparing the recipe for my family, they enjoy the meal, then I take a photo and send it to Wedefi. They share it on their Facebook page, I share the link and I post also a photo on my Instagram account. At the end, the most liked/shared photo win a wonderful Apéro-Boîte.

Summary :

  • I got a delicious Molitor box for free.
  • I will have fun cooking some bugs and trying new recipes
  • I can make my family and friends happy with a good meal
  • I can promote edible insects
  • It helps Jimini’s and Wedefi
  • I can win an Apéro-boîte to share with you (on video!)

Step 4 ” Back to the sources for finding some inspiration”

My recipe : The “Wurm Flammküeche” – The “Mealworms Tarte Flambée”

My sister were in holidays in the south of France for 2 weeks and went back home yesterday. Two long weeks far from Alsace is quite hard… I don’t know how she handled it…

Step 5 : In the kitchen

As she came to visit us yesterday evening with her boyfriend and their son, they needed a “Welcome back in Strasbourg“. For so, I prepared them the Over-Alsacienne Recipe : The Tarte Flambée.

Traditionally, it’s made with fresh cream, onions, bacon and spices… I just made a little tiny, crunchy and nutty adjustment by replacing the bacon by the Molitor (mealworms)…

I’m taking an enormous risk by doing this… I spoke about trying this recipe when I was interviewed on a local TV show about the possibilities use of edible insects. The answer was :

You can do whatever you want with insects, but you can’t touch the “Tarte Flambée”…

The tasting

Step 6 : Surprise!

Well I did it and everybody loved it. As you can see, they’re surprised (so good actors!). Even if we often eat insects together, it was the first time I tried to cook insects for everybody. And moreover, I consider a 5-years old child as a tough food critic…

It’s as good as the original (Honestly some of us, found it even better but for our own security, we can’t admit it…) It smells good, it tastes good, it’s crunchy and nutty! This new Jimini’s product is really great for creating recipes!

Truth need to be told, my ferocious food critic had picked up almost all of the mealworms… So, for the rest of us, it was more a “simplified version…”

Conclusion

I would like to thanks Jimini’s for the box and Wedefi for picking me for this challenge. I tried to do my best to honor both of you…

Step 7 : Tasting time! “Dad can I take your Molitor?”

I hope you had a good reading and if you want to help me win a wonderful apéro-boîte, you just have to like, comment and share the photo all around the world! Thank you so much for your support!

If nothing had worked until now, I use my special move : A picture of a sad child because there are no more mealworms. (I’m horrible, that’s not fair!)

“Don’t worry buddy… Uncle will win and you will have more bugs!”

Yeah, it’s tricky I know… But it’s not a game, there is an Apéro-Boîte Jimini’s to win… Every blow is allowed.

Take care and see you soon! (I hope so, I just “bugged” improved our most famous local recipe…)
