Summer’s canapés – Mealworms, sprouts and sun
The summer is not over yet. It is still possible to find nice and juicy summer’s vegetables on the market’s shelves. (And it’s always time to have an apéro!)
Summer… Sun, vegetables full of colors, finger food, South of France, the crickets chirping, the flowers…
So veggies, mealworms, South of France, sun, sprouts… It’s time to mix everything and use the seasoned mealworms from Jimini’s on canapés with sprouts. It will be a delicious and healthy moment for enjoying the end of the summer.
Les canapés : Mealworms on vegetables
For this recipe, I chose to use some already seasoned insects : les Molitor – “Sésame et cumin”, I find that the seasoning goes very well with the tomato, the zucchini and the sauces.
Jimini’s sells also some mealworms and grasshoppers specially for cooking which are called “Origine” . I used these mealworms in a mug cake with chocolate and raspberries.

With my mealworms, I chose to use some local vegetables found in the market, some pesto and eggplant caviar available in organic store and some sprouts.
Ingredients for 12 summer mealworms canapé
Preparation time : 15 min
- 1 half box of seasoned mealworms “Jimini’s – Le Molitor Sésame et cumin”
- 1 tomato
- 1 zucchini
- Egg plant caviar
- Some sprouts (I used pink lentils and mungo beans)
- Fresh basil
- Sea salt
Wash the tomato and the zucchini. Cut them into thick slices.
Sprinkle with a little bit of salt.
Add some life, energy and crunchiness with the sprouts and the mealworms.
